Tuluk Cushion

Tuluk Cushion

from £95.00

The Tuluk design is a collaboration with Carlowrie Castle to celebrate the life of the intrepid Edwardian explorer Isobel Wylie Hutchison. Isobel journeyed across Greenland documenting the Inuit tribes and the flora and fauna she encountered. This blanket was borne out of her beautiful watercolour sketches and intricate patterns on the Inuit ceremonial cape she wore. Tuluk is the affectionate name given to her by the Inuits.

This collection is inspired by extraordinary female explorers and their sketchbooks. This collection evokes an artist’s palette much like the watercolours used by these women on their expeditions. The harsh environments limited what they could carry on their journeys reducing the variability of colour, which is demonstrated in the tonal hues of the design.

The Tuluk design is woven in a beautiful valley on the Lancashire/ Yorkshire border in England, in one of the few working mills dating back to the 1700s. This collection is woven with 100% geelong lambswool, spun locally. Utilizing double cloth regional weaving knowledge with a contemporary twist each soft lambswool blanket is a cherished heirloom. Made using surplus fabric with a cotton backing and hypoallergenic cushion pad

With every woven blanket you will receive a signed card from the weaver.
