Country Living Modern Rustic

House of Spirit feature: I worked on the interiors of this beautiful 200 year old farmhouse to lovingly highlight its rustic features, from warm terracotta bricks, aged beams to rugged stone walls. But an old house does not have to have antique furniture. I find that mixing and matching periods really allows a home to feel lived in and brings an interior bang upto date.

In this house it is the art, hand made craft and textiles that draw everything together, focussing on colour and texture to add character. The furniture ranges from Ercol sofas to salvaged church pew chairs. A battered Victorian table is modernised with glossy blue paint. Yet what brings the house together are the soft muted shades on the wall and subtle pops of colour. Strong black lines are a signature of my interiors and always brings a Modernist feel to every home; its also a feature of my textiles. Dark lines ground a room, it could be in the form of an iron bed frame, black painted windows or dark simple frames for art. Finally, I often use my blankets as final touches to soften the space.

Do look through the images and contact the studio if you have a project in mind, whether its a room that you just can’t bring together in or a whole house project, my colour skills and little black source book can always help.
